Portland Latino Gay Pride finds a new place to celebrate
Portland, OR — The powers-that-be behind Portland Latino Gay Pride promised this year’s celebration would be “bigger, better, hotter…and later,” and while the weather’s rather late realization that summer had arrived resulted in some rain and gray clouds, they largely delivered on that promise.
After four days of music, poetry, dancing, brunching, and more, the 2011 Portland Latino Gay Pride — themed
“CelebrAcción” — culminated with its traditional “La Lucha Festival” party on July 17, but with a twist. This year the folkloric dancers, drag performers, singers, community partners, and other celebrants could be found on the eastside waterfront under the Hawthorne Bridge, which provided protection from most of the rain in addition to an incredibly open atmosphere.
