Immigration: How It Works & Does It Work: On Feb. 14, 7 p.m., in the Multnomah County Building Board Room (501 SE Hawthorne Blvd.), the League of Women Voters of Portland will welcome immigration experts to their February General Meeting to review enforcement practices of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service Secure Communities Program and learn about the impact of current immigration regulations and policies on the community and businesses in the region. This event is free and open to the public. It will be taped and televised on MetroEast Community Media during the several weeks following the meeting. It will also be available on www.lwvpdx.org.

WIIN program for immigrant nurses: The Workforce Improvement with Immigrant Nurses (WIIN) program at Clackamas Community College prepares experienced foreign-educated nurses living in the U.S. to enter the nursing workforce here and eases their transition into practice. Portland Open Studios Call to Artists: The annual Portland Open Studios tour is an opportunity for you to open your studio to the public and educate visitors about your creative methods and materials, inspiration and enjoyment. Open to all visual media, excluding film. Deadline for submission: March 15. Tour dates: Oct. 13-14, 20-21. The participation fee is $150 plus 8 hours of volunteer service; or $325 without volunteering. Open to residents of Portland, Tigard, Beaverton, Aloha, Milwaukie, Oak Grove, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Lake Oswego, West Linn, and Tualatin. Artists 20–30 years of age are encouraged to apply for the Kimberly Gales Scholarship. Recipient will have all fees waived, and will receive a $100 stipend. Call for Artists: The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) is seeking new additions — paintings, prints, drawings, photographs or three-dimensional wall pieces — to purchase for the Portable Works Collection. Free monthly preparedness classes: From making a disaster plan to learning the basics of CPR, Oregonians can get prepared for all types of emergencies in just one evening. On the fourth Tuesday of every month, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross will host a free preparedness class 6 p.m.-7 p.m., followed by a $10 hands-only “Citizen CPR” class until 7:30 p.m.. Job seekers support and networking group: This free and open program from the Hillsboro Chamber is designed to inform and engage those adversely affected by Oregon’s challenging job market. A, Hillsboro) participants are exposed to various topics of discussion led by local experts and given networking opportunities for professional growth and development. Breastfeeding Support Groups in English and Spanish: Most breastfeeding problems are easy to fix if moms have the right information and a place to go for guidance and support. Washington County has breastfeeding support groups to help moms in all stages of breastfeeding, from those with newborns to those nursing an older baby or toddler. During the meetings, moms can discuss issues such as infant growth and development, establishing a good milk supply, dealing with fussy babies, infant sleep and feeding patterns, and how to use a breast pump. All moms, as well as fathers and family members, are welcome. Hillboro groups are held at the WIC Clinic (155 N First Ave.) the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, in English from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., and in Spanish from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Beaverton groups are held at the  Beaverton Resource Center (12500 SW Allen Blvd.), the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, in English from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., at in Spanish from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

The College Assistance Migrant Program: CAMP is currently recruiting applicants who have a GED and family history of farm work and who would like to pursue a college career. CAMP is a federally-funded program that supports qualifying students during their first year in college. The program provides students with both financial assistance and support services, with the goal of preparing them to continue their education at a four-year college or university.
