Volunteers needed for reading program: On-the-Move Community Integration offers the area’s only free reading program for adults with developmental disabilities. It’s a highly rewarding short-term volunteer position, once per week for 10 weeks starting April 12 through June 14. My Story Youth Photography Exhibit: “We are Portland” includes photos supported in part by the Central Northeast Neighbors’ (CNN) Grant Program. Diplayed in the Atrium at City Hall (1221 SW 4th Ave.) through April 18. In 2009-2011 My Story partnered with Hacienda CDC to offer photography workshops to youth in the Cully neighborhood. County budget survey: A $3.5 million gap exists between ongoing revenues and expenses for next year’s Multnomah County budget. FAFSA Fridays at MHCC: Each Friday through June, 1 p.m.-2 p.m., Mount Hood Community College’s experts from the Financial Aid Office invite current and prospective students and their families to the computer lab in room AC2554 where they can get one-on-one help with FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students should bring their 2011 IRS tax returns, 2011 end-of-year pay stubs (if tax returns are not yet completed), current value of assets, social security number (and those of their parents if student is a dependent), driver’s license and alien registration card (if applicable).

Call for Artists: The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) is seeking new additions — paintings, prints, drawings, photographs or three-dimensional wall pieces — to purchase for the Portable Works Collection. Professional artists currently living in Oregon who are not already represented in the Portable Works Collection are invited to apply. More than 1,000 pieces, representing hundreds of Northwest artists, are regularly rotated throughout publicly accessible spaces in County and City buildings. This highly regarded collection strives to reflect a diversity of populations, artistic disciplines and points of view. Free monthly preparedness classes: From making a disaster plan to learning the basics of CPR, Oregonians can get prepared for all types of emergencies in just one evening. On the fourth Tuesday of every month, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross will host a free preparedness class 6 p.m.-7 p.m., followed by a $10 hands-only “Citizen CPR” class until 7:30 p.m.. Job seekers support and networking group: This free and open program from the Hillsboro Chamber is designed to inform and engage those adversely affected by Oregon’s challenging job market. Breastfeeding Support Groups in English and Spanish: Most breastfeeding problems are easy to fix if moms have the right information and a place to go for guidance and support. Washington County has breastfeeding support groups to help moms in all stages of breastfeeding, from those with newborns to those nursing an older baby or toddler. During the meetings, moms can discuss issues such as infant growth and development, establishing a good milk supply, dealing with fussy babies, infant sleep and feeding patterns, and how to use a breast pump. All moms, as well as fathers and family members, are welcome. Hillboro groups are held at the WIC Clinic (155 N First Ave.) the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, in English from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., and in Spanish from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Beaverton groups are held at the Beaverton Resource Center (12500 SW Allen Blvd.), the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, in English from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., at in Spanish from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

The College Assistance Migrant Program: CAMP is currently recruiting applicants who have a GED and family history of farm work and who would like to pursue a college career. CAMP is a federally-funded program that supports qualifying students during their first year in college. The program provides students with both financial assistance and support services, with the goal of preparing them to continue their education at a four-year college or university.
